Our classroom uses The Leader in Me model. Every student takes an active role in the classroom to become a productive member of the classroom. In turn, having ownership in the classroom allows the children to take pride in the room and their learning. When the student has a problem or disagreement with another student, he or she will use “I Care Language” to advocate for him or herself. The children are also taught when advocating if it is a bigger problem that the whole class would benefit from learning then the student may ask for a circle, which is a class meeting. A caring and risk-free environment encourages students to be active learners.
